Repairing General Electric Magne-Blast Bottles is done to repair the fractures
and cracks of the existing potting within them. These fractures and cracks result in
a leakage of the bus insulation into the switchgear itself. Repair of the bottles is
as follows:
Existing potting compound is completely removed from the bottles
Both the exterior and interior of the bottles are cleaned to removed melted bus
insulation
The bus is reinsulated with Raychem heat shrink - unlike the conventional
"tape" method, Raychem will not melt and leak if stresses and fractures occur
The bus is resealed within the bottle using an epoxy resin
